Thoughts of Starting Gulliver's Travels

I have heard much about Gulliver's Travels in that there is a big man in a small world, but I'm sure that's not all the the book, and I'm interested in seeing what this whole things about. I think he goes to a few other worlds in which he is very small, very wise and very ignorant. After looking up a little of the book I found that each place represents something and shows significance to government. This book is also found as a satire. Here is a website I look at to get a basic understanding of what I'm about to read. I think this will be a great book to read and a little challenging since it was published in 1726.

  1. I remember watching the movie, Jack Black played a great part in the movie. I'm excited to hear more about the book.

  2. Hmmm... I saw the Hallmark film version a long time ago. (Though I have very little memory of it.) I had never really guessed that it is a satire. But hey I'm easily conviced at anything.

  3. I am also interested in reading this book. I even have an extremely old copy of it from my late grandfather. Satires are fun to read, but you have to read it over a couple times before you figure it out.

  4. It's important to understand that all the adventures are some type of satire on some aspect of society of Jonathan Swift's time. It's funny how today it is considered a children's story when that was not its intention at all. It is great that you have chosen such a classic to read. I look forward to reading your blogs over this book.
